Abstract
This paper presents an analytical solution of the contact problem of a multilayered elastic solid subjected to the axisymmetrical indentation of a rigid circular plate, a system of standard Predholm integral equations of the second-kind is developed to govern the interaction between the rigid plate and the multilayered elastic solid. An explicit solution expression is presented for the surface deflection of the multilayered solid due to the indentation of the rigid plate. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the effect of layering material non-homogeneity on the elastic field induced by the rigid plate.
