Abstract

Fischer" " Institute of Mechanics, Leoben University for Mining and Metallurgy, and Christian-Doppler-Laboratory for Micromechanics of Materials, Leoben, Austria * Erich-Schmid-Institute of Solid State Physics, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Leoben, Austria ABSTRACT A numerical simulation of the stable crack growth in a plain sided CT- specimen of a high strength steel with 2D elastic-plastic FE analyses is presented. The different fracture behaviors in the center and near the side surfaces of the specimen were accounted for by using the plane strain analy- sis for the center part and the plane stress analysis for the surface part. The calculated results were compared with the experimental ones. A satisfactory agreement has been achieved. Further, the influence of the change of the ligament length on the crack growth resistance curve was investigated. It is shown
