Abstract
Effect of local damage on the residual strength of thick hybrid composite plate J. Avrashi, O. Dancygier, O. Ishai Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa 32000, Israel ABSTRACT Three dimensional stress and failure analysis of thick hybrid composite plate containing a local spherical damage is presented in the present work. The research is based on a combination of theoretical study with experimental investigation. Numerical results based on a special finite strip model are compared to the experimental results, and found to be in excellent agreement. Theoretical and experimental failure analysis of the damaged plate is investigated, toward computer aided assessment of the residual strength of damaged plate. INTRODUCTION Thick hybrid composite panels are more in use recently. An example of such panel is the sandwich plate, which consist of thin and stiff outer layers (skins) and thick and soft inner layers (cores). These panels hav
