Abstract
CFD simulations of a bubbly flow experiment with liquid eutectic alloy PbBi and Nitrogen ~ . ~ e r c u r i o ' & S. ~ c k e r t ~ 'ENEA Research Centre, Italy 2~orschungszentrum Rossendorf (FZR), Germany Abstract In the frame of the European ASCHLIM (Assessment of Computational Fluid Dynamics codes for Heavy Liquid Metals) project, a research activity was perfonned for the development of the Accelerator Driven System (ADS) technology for nuclear waste transmutation. Within different design options the use of Heavy Liquid Metals is foreseen both as coolant and moderator. A bubbly flow experiment, using liquid PbBi eutectic and N2 in a simple geometry, was performed to provide an experimental data base for a benchmark of numerical simulations. This paper describes the experimental techniques and the simulation results obtained with the volume finite code CFX4. The two fluid EulerIEuler model was used to simulate the bubbly flow, in particular, the vertical velocity profiles were calculated and c
