Abstract

In filament winding of thermoset composite structures, the curing process can be accomplished during the winding process. In this paper, a three-dimensional thermal model in cylindrical coordinate to simulate the online thermal process of curing with preheating the fiberwound composite is presented. The temperature and degree of cure profiles at the various locations within a tow calculated form the thermal model are given and discussed. Improvement to cure uniformity is obtained over previous results from models without preheating.
