Abstract
A methodology for the performance verification of co-ordinate measuring machines using a laser interferometer and a novel artefact G.F. Costello* & M.T. Hiller/ Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology University of Limerick Abstract As a result of the feasibility study carried out before the Project SMT4-CT98- 5517, "ACCURAT" [1], commenced, the following recommendations were made: • "There is an urgent need to establish a new International Standard to define test procedures for performance verification of co-ordinate measuring machines of all sizes. • "The method of test should be based on a single, universal artefact which is used in conjunction with a laser interferometer. The aim of this paper is to review current standards for verifying CMMs and to form the basis for the introduction of the use of the laser into these standards. It discusses the pros and cons of these standards and identifies the need for innovation in CMM testing methods. Recomm
