The spherical indentation process for materials having different a-e curves was modelled by means of a finite elements analysis. It was verified that the shape of the indentation crater depended upon the hardening properties of the materials. By means of proper use of these results, an iterative procedure was set up, which allows the a-e curve to be obtained with satisfactory accuracy for a large number of materials. Introduction When a small amount of material is available or destructive tes
