Abstract This paper gives an overview of the basic features of a software tool for the optimization of electromagnetic devices. Two stochastic optimization methods are implemented: Simulated Annealing and Genetic Algorithms. This tool works coupled with ELFIN, a finite element code developed by the authors for electrical engineering research. ELFIN allows us to deal with electromagnetic field problems in a fully parametric mode with respect to a set of variables, typically representing the geometrical or constitutive data of the electromagnetic device to be optimized.
