Abstract

A consistent formulation of the Eulerian and the Lagrangian approach is presented for non-dispersive dilute particulate flows. Adopting a consistent approach tends to prevent erroneous physical assumptions that other formulations of the Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches have a tendency to include. The Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches are applied to a simple application and the results are essentially the same. The causes of differences are investigated. The consistent approach is considered to give a reliable basis for further development. 1 Introduction Two-phase flows are very common in industry where the transport of a disperse phase has many diverse applications including combustion processes, cyclone separation, air-pollution control, filtration and spray designs amongst many other
