Abstract
The irrigation or the artificial recharge of aquifers with treated waste water may pollute the aquifer with chemical compounds or organic matter. During the infiltration throughout the unsaturated zone several processes can occur. The pollutants can react with each other, with the solid phase, or with the gas phase of the unsaturated zone. To model such problems, the finite element method is applied to the equations of flow and convection-dispersion transport of several species in the unsaturated soil. To improve the performance of the model, a study has been conducted to find out the numerical schemes, for time discretization and non linear system resolution, that gives the best results. The mo
