The theory was validated by experiment. The experimental study involved direct strain-gage measurements in the contact area of the rolling cylinders. The state of strain in the wheel/rail contact region was studied. Contact region stress distributions for various relative positions of the wheelset with respect to the rail track were determined. Angles of attack were accounted for.
