Abstract
The standard measurement of a machine tool axis is realised with one set-up per one or two geometrical deviations. The contouring performance is generally looked at in one coordinate plane of the machine. The measuring equipment introduced, the KGM-f- LONG, allows the measurement of up to six degrees of freedom of a machine tool movement. It is based on the grid encoder of Heidenhain. The first tests are made to look at the contouring performance of machine tools at higher feed rates. The results when moving on a step in the XY plane are shown. 1 Introduction The measurement of geometric deviations of a machine tool axis is carried out according to standards [1] and in practice with one set-up per geometric deviation. Only a few measurement devi
