Abstract
The quality of yttrium barium copper oxide superconductor Y123 (YBazCugO?.*) crystals grown from a melt by a modification of the Czochralski method is significantly affected by heat and mass transfer in the melt during growth, ffirs paper presents the numerical computations of the flow and thermal fields in the melt for Y123 single crystal growth by this modified method. The finite volume method with staggered numerical grids was used to calculate fluid flow and heat transfer. The flow in the melt was assumed to be axisymmetric and was modelled as an incompressible Newtonian,
