Abstract
The natural convection of air in a square cavity with horizontal temperature and concentration gradients which give augmenting buoyancy forces near the vertical walls was studied numerically. Computations were carried out by a finite volume method at the Prandtl number/V=0.71, the aspect ratio A=l, the Rayleigh number Ra=\tf or 10", the Lewis number Le=0.5, 1, 2 or 5 and the various buoyancy ratios N. At Le=0.5 the concentration was nearly uniform near the top and the bottom of the system. Then, the intermediate layer which has both a roughly linear steep concentration gradient
