One of the main difficulties in choosing the most appropriate method of valorising this by-product is the variability of the raw materials as well as their composition. Several strategies and technologies of valorisation are available; the most promising are the continuous Simultaneous Saccharification and Extractive Fermentation (SSEF) and the two-stage continuous acid hydrolysis and fermentation.
