Abstract

This paper presents some of the first results of an ongoing project investigating the links between architectural forms and their environmental performance. Firstly a short analysis of urban space and its different components will be presented. Secondly the results of the monitoring of two case study locations and their statistical analysis will demonstrate the determining parameters affecting the thermal environment of an outdoor space. The hypothesis of the project is that a variety of conditions can create a thermally diverse environment, which will lead to a longer and more fulfilling occupancy. 1 Introduction The overall objective of this study is that the use of semi enclosed intermediate spaces in conjunction with open spaces such as squares and streets can increase the architectural and environmental
