Abstract This paper examines the current situation of the rehabilitation of brownfields in Germany, focusing on the present trends of spatial planning and the use of space and on a relatively new challenge for policy making that is gaining momentum, albeit at a slow pace, i.e., the rehabilitation of brownfields.
