Abstract In h s paper a regulation problem for an artificial reservoir is tackled. The proposed control strategy is divided into two steps, resulting into two different controllers at different levels of hierarchy. The first controller is designed to solve a classic traclung problem, where the variable to track is a given reference water flow profile. The second, hlgh level, controller is devoted to the definition of the above reference water flow profile in order to reduce inconvenient in the case of water shortage. The proposed approach heavily relies on fiuzy logic concepts, since both controllers are fuzzy, The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated by using a MATLABISIMULINK dynamic simulator on a 40-years
