Abstract
A life cycle assessment study of the environmental sustainability of domestic water saving techniques M. ~arantini' & F. ~ e r r i ~ 1 ENEA, The Italian National Agency of New Technologies, Energy and the Environment, Italy 'ENEA consultant, Italy Abstract A Life-Environment project (AQUASAVE), fimded by the European Commission, with the aim of implementing an integrated system for saving, recycling and reusing water in an apartment building, has been recently concluded. For evaluating the environmental sustainability of introducing watersaving devices, rain-water harvesting and grey-water reusing technologies in domestic water cycle, the global environmental impact of existing drinking and wastewater treatment systems of Bologna city has been estimated by means of LCA methodology. In each techmcal process of Bologna water cycle the energy, chemicals and materials flows and the related emissions to air water and soil have been evaluated.
