Abstract
This paper presents data on the social and economic value of the environment, applicable to urban planning, drawn from a literature review carried out by RSKENSR Environment Ltd. The research was commissioned by Greening for Growth, a partnership to deliver a long-term programme of environmental improvement and community action to regenerate the Northumberland Coalfield in the UK. Greening for Growth was established as a result of the publication of the Northumberland Coalfield Environmental Enhancement Strategy, which identifies a bold, comprehensive £25 million programme, to be implemented over 20 years. This study was commissioned to help make the business case to secure this investment.
