Abstract
Determination of multi-element profiles of street dust and road dust for Hong Kong 2. L. L. Yeung & K. N. Yu Department of Physics and Materials Science, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. Abstract Street dust and road dust samples have been sampled in different areas in Hong Kong associated with various levels of traffic and pedestrian flow, and the concentrations of 23 chemical elements have been determined using Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF). These 23 studied elements were Na, Al, Si, CI, Ti, Ba, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, K, Ca, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Pb, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr and Sn. Profiles for the street dust and road dust have been determined by taking average values from different areas. Correlation of chemical elements between street dust and road dust samples have been identified. Factor analyses have also been employed to identify sources for street dusts and road dusts in Hong Kong, which include crustal material, metallic dust, vehicles, road pavement materials and marine aerosols
