Abstract

Assessment of random events at river water intakes B. Budzilo Institute of Wafer Supply and Environment Protection, Technical University of Krakow, Poland. Abstract The river water intake is an important element of the water supply system, and should meet requirements of reliable operation and ensure water consumption with appropriate quantity and quality. Each interruption in water supply means that the problem exists. Field investigation, which have been conducted by the author since 1985 in southern Poland, allowed recognizing many river water intakes and their problems. A reliability analysis of water intakes was conducted, and took under consideration a water source quantity and quality. On the basis of collected data the following random events in a water source were considered: highly troubled water, pollution occurrence, eutrophication occurrence, low water level in the river, ice occurrence.
