S. cunha2 useur urn Paraense Emilio Goeldi, BelLm, Para, Brazil 2~aculdade de CiZncias Agra'rias do Pard, Belkm, Pard, Brazil Abstract The objective of this work was to study the mineral and organic components of soils from 4 sites, located in The Ferreira Penna Scientific Station (ECFPn), Par6 State, Brazil: a) Sandy Yellow Latosol under primary forest b) Clayed Yellow Latosol under primary forest c) a medium textural Yellow Latosol under secondary vegetation (capoeira), d) Archaeological Black Earth. The Latosols present the typical characteristics of the predominant Amazonian soils. Djfferences in carbon content between the first three sites is likely to be more closely related to the variation in drainage between the sites rather than topography and vegetation cover or soil parent material.
