Abstract

Development of GA based waste-load allocation policies for seasonal river water quality management M. ~ararnouz'.~, R. era chi an' & M. ~ahmoodian' I School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Amirkabir University (Tehran Polytechnic), Tehran, Iran 2 Department of Civil Engineering/ Hydrology and Water Resources, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA Abstract In this study an extension of the classical river water quality management models is presented that provides policies for the monthly removal fraction of the point sources. The unsteady characteristics of river flows and water pollutants are considered using a water quality simulation model, which has been linked to a Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization model. This model minimizes the total loss in the computational time horizon, which includes the sum of treatment costs and the losses associated with the river water quality violation from the standards. Because of the dimensionality problem, other optimization methods, such as dyna
