A. ~lshinnawy' I Water Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Tanta University, Egypt 2 Environmental and Climate Research Institute, National Water Research Center, Cairo, Egypt Abstract Al-Burullus lake is one of five coastal lakes on the northern coast of Egypt. It acts as an important source for fishing production. Al-Burullus Lake is a shallow brackish lake and its area reaches about 420 km2. It has experienced drastic changes in the last decades, since the operation of the High Aswan Dam. Many activities have impact on eutrophication status, the ecological value and the environmental condition of the lake such as agriculture development around the lake, agricultural and industrial activities within the catchment and inadequate rural sanitation. Al-Burullus lake is situated between the River Nile Branches and is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a strip of sandy land. A
