Abstract
The new class of GUI simulation software for environmental modelling B.P. Murphy Department of Information Management and Marketing, o/ 1. Introduction Simulation modelling is an old task in environmental matters, covering many related disciplines - agriculture, forestry, engineering (i.p. hydrology) ecology, weather, and management. Now over 40 programs and packages enabling it are commercially available [Swain, 3], to say nothing of the thousands of privately built systems. However, in the last few years there has been a quantum shift in the scope and power of certain simulation packages, as instanced by the packages Extend [1] & Sim View [2], the first of which will be discussed here with particular reference to its use in modelling in environmental matters. General aspects of this software has been described by Murphy et al [4,6,8], a particular environmental model being [5] and part models [7 & 9]. This paper provides more detail to [7 & 9]. One
