Abstract
Detection of metallic elements in aqueous solutions S.Boudjemai, T.Gasmi, M.Branci, R.Boushaki, F.Medjahed & D.Mechta Solid State Laser Group, Lasers and Applications Laboratory Advanced Technologies Development Center: C.D. T.A, Algeria. Abstract Preliminary experimental results are reported on temporal and spectral characteristics of laser spark emission spectra. A laser-generated spark was used to analyse liquids spectroscopically for elemental constituents. Sparks were generated in water by focussed beam of a Q-switched Nd: YAG laser directly in liquids. A laser pulse of 20 ns duration and an energy of about 100 mJ at 10 Hz repetition rate is used. Emissions from once-ionised and neutral atoms were observed. NaCl, LiiCOs, CaCl2, BaC^, A1C1] , aqueous solutions exhibited fluorescence signal on the decaying edge of the plasma emission at their respective characteristic resonance lines. Limits of detection for Na I (0.39ppm), Li I (8.3ppm), Ca I (36ppm), B
