Abstract

The protection of aquifers that are subject to land pollution sources P.S. Kollias', V. Kollias^, S. Kollias* ' Dr. Civil - sanitary engineer •j Dr. Physicist, Researcher, University of Athens Dipl. Mathematician, University of Athens Abstract The considerable population increase and the spectacular ascent of life standards created the necessity to find sufficient quantities of good quality water mainly from ground water aquifers. This lead to ground water saltation near the coasts. Moreover the increase of land pollution sources and the diffusion of used waters to ground water aquifers lowered their quality for water supply use. The prevention of pollution transfer through the used water treatment and the recirculation for secondary uses, are feasible activities in order to face the pollution problem and the water shortage. The creation of protection zones (I, II, III) around sources intakes will help regulate pollution control measures of ground water aquifers.
