Abstract
Investigation on organics in the Libyan Beach sand and water; extraction, spectroscopy and gas chromatography: Bsees to Zuwaitinah Coastline L.H. Ali, S.A. El-Jawashi, A.A. Ejbali & MJ. Garbaj Petroleum Research Center, Libya. Abstract Fifty-seven samples from nineteen locations extending along 800 kilometers on the southern Mediterranean shore between Bsees town and east of Zuwaitinah harbour, were examined for their organic contents. Sampling was conducted under the following specifications: 1. Dry beach sand, 3 to 4 meters away from water (denoted ds). 2. Wet beach sand, obtained from 1 meter depth (denoted ws). 3. Beach water (denoted w). Known amounts of sand (ds or ws) and beach water (w) were extracted with chloroform. Organics in the extracts were determined gravimetrically and were examined by gas chromatography. Alternatively a direct determination of organics concentration in CHCls solution was obtained spectrophotometricaily from calibration curves of absorpti
