Abstract
Preliminary multivariate analysis of chemical composition of the rivers in Slovenia M. Zupai/% J. Uhai/% D. Rogelj^, M. Andjelov^ (1) Hydrometeorological Institute of Slovenia, Slovenia (2) Geological Survey of Slovenia, Slovenia Abstract Actions to improve the water quality and reduce the human impact have a very high priority in most European countries, both from the national and transboundary point of view. The new approach calls for the water management by river basins, rather than by the administrative boundaries. Many activities have been undertaken recently to improve availability and reliability of the data on subregional level and on the level of transboundary river basins. The physical and chemical characteristics of the water, the suspended solids and the stream sediments reflect geological and anthropogenic processes in the catchment areas. Monitoring programmes should not be limited to the collecting data and their interpretation from the sampling point of view. Com
