Abstract
Hydrodynamic parameter estimation in a horizontal unsaturated soil column C. Tzimopoulos & C. Evangelides Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece Abstract A series of experiments were conducted for horizontal absorption and vertical infiltration in the laboratory in order to determine the diffusivity function D(0), the hydraulic conductivity K(0) and the characteristic curve *F(0). Soil samples were used from the area of Ptolemaida Greece for both cases with great effort to maintain the same density and same pore size distribution. Moisture contents were measured using gamma ray absorption method and suctions were measured using tensiometers and pressure transducers. Constant head initial condition was used during horizontal absorption and moisture profiles were obtained during different time intervals by continuous scanning the column with gamma rays. The flux concentration method was used in order to obtain theoretical moisture profil
