Abstract
In this paper we present a method in which the formulation of the network and solution of the resulting system of equations is so carried out to minimize both the storage and computational requirement for analyzing large scale systems. The method takes advantage of discrete nature of the system and formulates the behavior of the whole network by considering the behavior of individual pipes. A flow-head relation is established for each pipe or 'element' which are subsequently assembled to yield the required equations for the whole system. Inclusion of pumps, pressure reducing valves and check valves are carried out by introducing proper elements modeling the behavior of the pump, pressure reducing valve and check valve. The inclusion of the fixed head rese
