Abstract
Quantitative prediction of pollutants migration is now of great interest in the field of waste management and storage. Numerical modelling of contaminant transport through porous media is an efficient tool to make this prediction possible. Site selection and design of protective liners for landfills and storage facilities are highly related to the behaviour of contaminants in such structures. This behaviour may be well defined by numerical simulations. In this paper a two-dimensional finite element model for pollutant migration is presented. The implementation of the advection-dispersion equation in the numerical model, and validation tests by comparisons with analytical and semi-analytical solutions are presented.
