Abstract

This study aims to establish a computer database for the oil pollution in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. The study involves the measured values of oil pollution along a research maritime trip and the results of a coastal study facing the Egyptian coast of the Mediterranean Sea. 1 Introduction Oil pollution is considered as the most serious type of seawater pollution. This is mainly due to normal operational activities at sea such as shipping, bunkering and docking. Ships and tanker accidents are the major sources of oil pollution at sea. Oil pollution destroys the marine biota and consequently degrades the natural sea resources. The oil pollution attacked some fishing zones and some beaches (1). In this study a computer database was fed to monitor the oil pollution along the Egyptian coast of the Mediterranean Sea
