Abstract

In this paper a semi-analytical model has been developed to estimate the amount of oil disappeared from an oil spill floating on a seawater surface. The model estimates area, volume, slick thickness and composition of oil spill versus time. It also calculates the amount of oil vaporized, dissolved or sunk into water at any time. The model has been evaluated and tested against experimental data obtained from Kuwaiti oils used for export. 1 Introduction The fate of a spill of crude oil or refined product in the marine envi- ronment is determined by spreading, evaporation, dissolution, disper- sion, emulsification, sedimentation and various degradation processes. Therefore analytical solution to the problems associated with hydro- carbon oil
