Abstract
A case study of water resources planning is approached by use of simulation to build foreground scenarios for a multi-purpose problem, where the size of a dam to be constructed is the major question. A simulation model judges its performance on water supply, land irrigation, environmental benefits downstream and power generation. Risk acceptance and a stepwise use of the simulation model leads to basic alternatives suitable for multicriteria analysis, which involves the several groups interested in the dam performance. A first good solution is obtained and the problem is prepared to receive sensitive analysis and, hopefully, an improved solution. 1 Introduction In this paper we deal with a planning proble
