Abstract
Transport of solutes in heterogeneous porous media is considered when the condition of large-scale mass equilibrium is not valid. A two-equation model based on the large-scale volume averaging method is presented here. Numerical experiments are carried out for nodular systems and random stratified systems, and the results are compared with theoretical predictions. Good agreement between theory and experiments is obtained. 1 Introduction The transport of solutes in geological formations is currently receiving a great deal of attention for issues such as remediation of contaminated groundwater. Despite recent progress in computational tools, simulation of miscible flow in complex natural systems requires a too large number of grid bl
