Abstract
The hydrogeological conditions for the Yuanbaoshan Opencut Coal Mine are rather complex, and the total average flow rate from August 1990 to July 1997 is very high at 4.95xl0^mVd. Due to the large and widespread water level decline, some problems which are difficult to overcome in the process of numerical simulation are encountered, such as drying up of the aquifer, movement of the model boundary, and prediction of the redsidual head. In this paper, a 2-dimensional ground water flow model in a large area is developed to solve these problems by simulating regional drawdowns of ground water level during the drainage period, and a 3-dimensional flow model is developed to simulate the residual head near the openpit bench. Theses models are used to describe the ground water leve
