Abstract
Sharp concentration fronts are usually present when the advection domi- nates contaminant transport in groundwater. Traditional numerical meth- ods for solving transport equations either generate spurious oscillation near fronts or introduce numerical diffusion to enforce positivity. The Flux- Corrected Transport (FCT) algorithm for finite difference methods has been developed on structured meshes to avoid spurious oscillation and minimize the numerical diffusion. This paper extends the FCT algorithm to unstruc- tured meshes. A finite volume method is developed to model the contam- inant transport on unstructured meshes. Solutions for advective flux are sought by a first-order upwind scheme and a second-order scheme. FCT is based on mutual correction between the two schemes.
