Abstract
Groundwater pollution problems can be addressed using a mathematical procedure that takes into consideration subjective information in the design of systems for decontamination of groundwater aquifers. The methodology is based on defining and formulating a set of fuzzy rules that improves the description of the relationship between exposure to low doses of contaminated groundwater and potential health-based risk issues. These fuzzy rules can be used in identifying engineering design constraints that must be taken into consideration in generating least-cost solutions to the restoration of the quality of contaminated groundwater aquifers. 1 Introduction Presently, techniques used for assessing health risk equate uncertain- ties in parameter
