Abstract
A model for estimating nutrient flow in rural areas is employed and a data base to estimate flows in a region (prefecture and municipality) and evaluate their sustainability is constructed. The model consists of three parts : food and feed supply, wastes disposal and input to and output from a cultivated land. Flows in these 3 parts depend on human and livestock populations, manure application and crop production. The data base stores these statistical data for each region in Japan and a set of coefficients to convert the data into nutrient flows.
