Abstract
Laboratory experimental study on the interfacial shear stresses and velocity distribution in arrested saline wedges G. Pehlivanidis, V. Dermissis Department of Civil Engineering, Division of Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 540 06 Thessaloniki, Greece ABSTRACT The paper summarizes part of the results of a recent research by the authors on the dynamics of two-layered stratified flows at the Civil Engineering Hydraulics Laboratory of the University of Thessaloniki. Density and temperature measurements were carried out by the designed and constructed at the Laboratory electronic conductivity meter and thermometer, respectively. Direct measurements of velocity and Reynolds shear stresses, through hot film anemometer, led to the conclusion that the interfacial flow remains turbulent in spite of the small effect of the Reynolds stresses on the total iterfacial shear stresses. The velocity distribution laws together w
