Abstract
Application of the flow modelling for protection of an aquifer from oily pollutant in Czaslaw, Poland J.M. Stopa, T. Solecki Faculty of Drilling and Petroleum Engineering, University of ABSTRACT This paper describes the development of the geotechnical system for protection of the river from oily pollutants and decontamination of the aquifer. The system was designed using the numerical modelling of the hydrocarbon migration and the ground water table level. The results of simulation and the effects of two-year exploitation of the system are also presented. INTRODUCTION In November 1990, an underground fuel pipeline in the area of asphalt plant in Czaslaw, near Krakow became damaged. This caused oil infiltration into an aquifer and filtration of oily pollutant in the direction of the Krzyworzeka river. In order to preserve the river and sanitation of the aquifer, a geotechnical system, composed of a semi-permeable barrier, exploitation and re- injection wells, and a water
