Abstract

In this paper an inverse tidal flow model is developed which joins the knowledge of the hydrodynamics of coastal areas with the inverse methodology initially developed in meteorology. Inverse modelling is a calculation procedure based on optimisation theory that combines flow measurements with the governing equations describing the movement of tidal flows in coastal waters. The process minimises the difference between the solution and the measurements having the governing equations as constraints. The minimisation procedure was developed from the variational analysis by direct application of Euler-Lagrange equations. This procedure was developed with the aid of co
