Abstract
In the paper, we propose a computer model for a water quality assessment in coastal environment. It is based on the phosphorus modelling and the resulting change of the trophic state parameters: chlorophyll a and Secchi disc transparency. There is a close relationship between phosphorus and the trophic parameters as main indicators of the water quality and the state of the aquatic ecosystem. On the basis of the results from the pollution monitoring system and our model, we can represent the degree of pollution in the coastal region by using multimedia technology (combination of text, images, video, graphics, etc.). As a case study, we have applied our model for the Ohrid Lake in Macedonia, which is under the protection of UNESCO. 1 Introduction Excessi
