Abstract
This paper shows a study of ozone behavior in the atmosphere of the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) from 1986 to 1994. Seasonal variation, trends, standard exceedences and precursors behavior were analyzed. The information obtained was used to evaluate some of the strategies implemented by the petroleum industry to control ozone in the atmosphere of the MCMA. Results of the study show that the highest levels of ozone on a certain year were recorded during winter and spring time. The historic highest average concentrations occurred in 1991, since then smaller concentrations have been observed, and the number of days with concentrations above 0.23
