Abstract
In this paper the development of data assimilation techniques for the three- dimensional tropospherical chemical transport model LOTOS (LOng Term Ozone Simulation) is described. A deterministic parameter estimation pro- cedure to identify uncertain parameters in LOTOS is developed. In deter- ministic parameter estimation the difference between measurements and the model results are assumed to be due to measurement errors and incorrectly prescribed model parameters. A cost function is introduced that is a crite- rion for the differences between measured and calculated values. This cost function is then minimized with respect to the mo
