Abstract
A non-linear dynamical model of the human cardio-respiratory control and of acid-base regulation oriented to clinical applications is presented. The model incorporates the respiratory, cardiovascular and body fluids buffer systems. The respiratory system inte- grates three controlled compartments, i.e., the lung, body tissue and brain tissue, and a controller which adjusts alveolar ventilation in response to chemical perturbations de- tected by two groups of chemoreceptors: the central ones, which are sensitive to CO% pressure changes in the medulla, and the peripheral ones, which respond to changes in arterial C02 and 02 pressure. The cardiovascular system includes a simple bicorn- partmental model of the systemic circulation that allow
