Abstract
Tests of small scale buried structures under surface impact loading A.N. Dancygier," S.P. Shah,& & L.M. Keer" ^Department of Civil Engineering, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel ^Department of Civil Engineering, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA ABSTRACT The tests described herein were part of a research of the response to an external surface impact of a structure with a reinforced concrete roof, embedded in a shallow depth of burial (DOB). The experimental system consisted of a small scale Plexiglas cylinder embedded under a shallow depth of burial of dry Ottawa sand, supporting a reinforced micro-concrete roof. The sand backfill surface was subjected to a mechanical impact. Measurements were acquired of the roof motion (velocity and displacement), and of the pressure over the roof and in the free field. The experimental results showed the relations between the loading on the buried roof and its motion, thus indicating the occu
