Sanchez-Galvez" "Department of Materials Science, E.T.S. de Ingenieros de Caminos, Candles y Puertos, Polytechnic University of Madrid, Ciudad Department of Engineering, Carlos III University, ABSTRACT The impact of 20 mm APDS projectiles against ceramic/metal armours is experimentally and numerically analyzed in this paper. The projectiles were fired against the armours at about 1250 m/s. The deformed configurations of the projectiles and the targets were examined after the experiments. The impact experiments were numerically modelled using the AUTODYN-2D program. A time- dependent fracture model for ceramic material previously presented by the authors was implemented in the computer code, in order to represent the ceramic tile behaviour under impact conditions.
